If the following few lines, the production of a Scotch
genius, addressed to the British ladies, may, through the
channel of your useful paper, be agreeable to the fair part
of your encouragers, they are humbly offer'd by the ladies
friend and well-wisher, [signed] Philanthropos.
Oh! let soft virtue warm each tender breast,
Indulge the noble passion, and be blest;
And would the fair connubial blessings prove,
Let merit win you, and let honor move.
